Sonali Sangeeta Balajee

and Our Bodhi Project

Sonali Balajee and Our Bodhi Project

Sonali (she/her) is the founder of Our Bodhi Project, a proud mother, artist, organizer, facilitator, mindfulness / yoga instructor, and emerging health practitioner who works at the intersection of belonging, equity, and deep transformative change. Lyra and Sonali work together to create curriculum and offer engagements integrating somatics and equity to explore liberation in the individual and social body. Our Bodhi Project is a spiritual and political organizing project. Bodhi works in relationship with individuals and groups to create meaningful spaces of learning and strategies for healthy movement-building that center the ‘whole’ of our experiences as living systems. Doing so can lead us to more accurate understandings of how harm happens and the social antidotes that heal and liberate us, while simultaneously sustaining our health. Bodhi believes that by tuning into our interconnectedness, collectively imagining, and organizing using the entire set of resources available to us, we honor the sacred relationship we hold with the Earth.

Bodypathways

Bodypathways is the East Coast home of Alexander Technique Portland / Philadelphia. Bodypathways’ staff of expert teachers offer Pilates and GYROTONIC ® which beautifully compliment the study of the Alexander Technique. We find that Alexander Technique students benefit enormously from using Pilates and GYROTONIC ® as a movement lab inside of which to practice the new ways of moving and being that they are finding through Alexander Technique. The conscious, guided movement helps to solidify new habits, wake up the nervous system, access new movement potential, and build smart, strong, responsive bodies. Along with teaching Alexander Technique, Lyra also teaches Pilates and GYROTONIC ® at Bodypathways.

The Contemporary Alexander School

Contemporary Alexander School teacher training program

Lyra is on the faculty of the Contemporary Alexander School and the Alexander Alliance International. While Alexander Technique Portland does not offer Alexander Technique teacher training, the Contemporary Alexander School offers self-paced, non-residential, contemporary teacher training programs based in Santa Fe, NM and Portland, OR, with full time, part time, and academic-calendar training options. The emphasis is on being able to teach the fundamental principles of the Alexander Technique to individuals and groups within the activities of their lives. CAS is the only USA branch of the Alexander Alliance International, which has been offering immersion-based Alexander Technique teacher training through a contemporary pedagogy since 1982. There is an underlying principle which guides the essence of the training, best expressed in a quote by philosopher Ram Dass:

“The only thing we have to offer another being, ever, is out own state of being.”
